Food Shapes Behavior
I am trying to share information not necessarily promoting our business but trying to educate, help us as a people to make better choices and decisions or just help us “think” in general about food, what it is, and it’s purpose. While thinking about what I wanted to say in this article I was thinking about what is food.
Food has been called medicine. Medicine is the science or practice of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
Food has been called a drug. A drug is a medicine or other substance which has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body or a substance taken for its narcotic or stimulant effects, often illegally.
Food has been called chemistry. Chemistry is the chemical composition and properties of a substance or body.
Wikipedia says “Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for an organism.”
The dictionary says “any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink, or that plants absorb, in order to maintain life and growth.”
From these two definitions I get that food is a substance or nutritious substance. The subtitle of this brief article is “food shapes behavior.” Let’s go after that. I have been a vegetarian for a while now. As someone that does not consume meat (beef, fish, lamb, poultry, shellfish, animals, etc.), it has been said that vegetarians are not as “aggressive” as someone that consumes meat, especially red meat. Do you believe that? The converse of that is red meat makes you aggressive. Do you believe that? It has been said that sugar (white sugar) makes one hyperactive. Do you believe that? It has been said that pig eaters take on the characteristics (behavior) of the pig? Do you believe that? If you agree that these things are true then what is food doing? Can food make it’s eater violent? Can food make it’s eater depressed? In our Lessons as Registered Muslims we learned that eating the wrong food can cause a person to fear, to be afraid. We already know that food can make one “obese,” too much food!
I am thinking about one of my favorite educational food films, “Supersize Me.” In this case certain so-called foods can make you sick! To go a little deeper, food has now been “weaponized” to control population growth globally! By weaponized we mean that food is now a weapon that will harm, maim, or injure the eater. For example, a certain corn has been developed that if consumed by adult males will kill their sperm and render them impotent!
With all of the substances that are out here today that are called “foods” one must be very, very, discerning in choosing what they will consume, especially if their desire is to live a long healthy and productive life free of sickness and disease.
